[Blog] Is All Hope Lost?
Written by WalkyTalky on Thursday, 5th Apr 2012 15:15

We currently have six games remaining, as does every single other team in the Championship. We are now way into the final part of the season, sitting 14th in the table. But is it still possible to make the play-offs?

The play-offs often contain one surprise team come the end of the season, previously Blackpool and last season Reading. Reading won seven games on the bounce to secure their position in the play-offs, and with one win in the bag and six games remaining, we could achieve this.

Brighton are currently the team that occupy sixth place on 63 points, along with fifth placed Blackpool and seventh placed Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough and eighth-placed Cardiff have both drawn their last four games, and Hull who are ninth have lost their last four.

Between Ipswich's current position and sixth place, there is only one team in any sort of form. This is Watford, who are unbeaten in their last six games, winning four of them. I wasn't at Vicarage Road, so I feel I cannot comment, but I don't think they're serious promotion challengers.

Ironically, our next two games are against the teams directly above us, Derby and Leicester. If we beat both teams, and results go our way, we could be sitting at ninth next Tuesday, with four games to play, two of which are against relegation strugglers, and a tasty home game against fourth-placed Birmingham. By this point I think we'll know if we have a serious chance of getting to the play-offs.

I've always believed 70 points is definitely required to make the play-offs, and five wins out of six will see us there.

I'd love it if we go to Doncaster on the last day of the season needing a win and results to go our way, and if they do imagine the feeling, the accomplishment everyone at the game and at home will be feeling. We could relegate Doncaster at the same time, that would be funny.

I'm making a plea to all Ipswich fans attending the Derby match on Saturday to sing your hearts out and stick behind the boys! If we win, who knows what could happen but for now let's stay behind the boys and back them till the very end!

i feel the same but prefer to remain cautious. it is a possibility but at the same time a big ask. i have been really impressed with the recent up turn in form and feel some pride has been restored to supporting a club which for too long has seemed only to be moving backwards. a top 10 finish is more likely and given everything thats happened this season would be very encouraging for better times to come. still, if i was a betting man, i might just stick a tenner on us gatecrashing the playoffs

If we had of beat Watford and now been 6 points away I would of said it is possible, but being completly realistic now we have left it too late. I agree with mightytown lets just keep this form up and take it into next season. I would be very happy with top half finish.

I love a dream and a few weeks ago I thought we COULD still do it, but let's stop with all this now. It's not going to happen. I'd be very happy with a top ten finish. You say there's only one team in real form right now, but that's the thing about this league, form changes so quickly. All those other teams won't keep this bad form up for the rest of the season.

clutching at straws..were you not at Watford or Brighton? They are the ones who will sneak in if any.

only twice in the last 7/8 seasons has 70 points been enough for 6th place, do you seriously expect brighton or boro to only pick up 6 points between now and the end of the season. Get real it aint happening.... the best we are can hope for is a higher finish than last year....coyb

I agree with you 'MightTown' it finally feels good to be an Ipswich town supporter again I am not sure what it is but there seems to be great spirit back at the club, majority of the players seem to love playing for the club and the fans all seem right behind the club... It feels like good times are coming back to Ipswich. I do not think we will make the play-offs however if wetake it a game at a time who knows as long as there is still a chance it is possible!

No play offs lads..let's not illude ourselves. We should not have lost against Brighton and Watford and these bad defeats showed the limits of our abilities. Let's hope for a decent finish. Can't expect anymore than that. Oh and keep Lee-Barrett in goal.

Play-offs are over well and truly unfortunatly. Be good to finish in the top 12 though.

Anyone who had hope after halfway through the season were deluded.

The draw and defeat over Easter probably put paid to our chances of sneaking into the play-offs.
